Individual Community Monograph

This book, a self-initiated exploration of the relationship between community and self, uses personal experience as a case study. Through surveys with friends, neighbors, and collaborators, I gathered data on background, interests, and definitions of community. The resulting infographics, illustrations, photographs, and written reflections map how interpersonal relationships shape identity—and how the self contributes in return.

Photo collages of specific locations explored a sense of time as well as place as people moved through the landscape. The body text explained the importance of the locations in an attempt to see how geography influences a sense of self.

The section on art became a snapshot of the people who influenced my artistic practice. The size and proximity of each dot to the center offered a qualitative view of their impact. These visualizations were followed by illustrations of people and places, each paired with a short poem of appreciation.
